Veterinarians

Veterinarian

Amanda McNamee, DVM

Dr. Amanda McNamee started as an associated veterinarian in May 2017. She was raised in Hickman, NE and completed her undergraduate work at University of Nebraska-Kearney graduating from the Honors Program with a Biology degree. During her undergraduate career she worked at a small animal practice serving as kennel staff, receptionist and veterinary assistant. She attended the UNL/ISU cooperative veterinary medicine program, graduating in 2017.

Dr. McNamee is excited to meet and serve the welcoming clientele of Pitts Veterinary Hospital. Her professional interests include internal medicine, dermatology and dentistry with a burgeoning interest in ultrasound. She is a member of American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA).

Dr. McNamee resides in Lincoln with her husband. They share a miniature schnauzer named Jackie, 3 domestic shorthair cats named Kola, Koch and Luna and a guinea pig named Chester.

Dr. McNamee enjoys reading, crocheting and spending time with her family and friends.

Veterinarian

Mark P. Falloon, DVM

Mark P. Falloon has been employed at Pitts Veterinary Hospital since July, 1998. He grew up in Lincoln, Nebraska, and completed his undergraduate work at the University of Nebraska in 1985, earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Language (German). In 1988 he received an Associate Degree in Veterinary Technology. He received a Bachelor’s of Science in Veterinary Medicine from Kansas State University where he also earned his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in July of 1998. He has always had a strong interest in the outdoors and wildlife. His experience as a veterinary technician encouraged him to progress in the field.

His veterinary professional interest is exotic animal medicine. He was the attending veterinarian at the Lincoln Children’s Zoo from 2003 to 2018. He is also active with Raptor Recovery Nebraska and Wildlife Rescue Team. Veterinary Organizations of which Dr. Falloon is a member are the American Veterinary Medical Association, the American Association of Zoo Veterinarians, and the American Animal Hospital Association.

Dr. Falloon’s pets include two dogs, Pixie and Page. Though his current dogs are smaller, he has a special affinity for his past English Pointers.

Dr. Falloon has two children: a daughter, Emily, and a son, Jordan.

In his spare time, Dr. Falloon enjoys hunting, fishing, back packing, cycling, archery, bird dogs, and tennis.

Veterinarian

Amanda Forgey, DVM

Dr. Amanda Forgey started as an associate veterinarian in May 2017. She was raised in Lincoln, NE. She attended Morningside College in Sioux City, IA where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in biology in 2012. She attended veterinary school through the 2+2 UNL/ISU Veterinary Medicine program, graduating in 2017. Dr. Forgey looks forward to meeting new clients and developing relationships with them and caring for their pets. She has an interest in ophthalmology, dentistry and surgery. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association as well as the Nebraska Veterinary Medical Association.

Dr. Forgey had two bichons, Jackson and Toby, when she was younger. She currently has a 3 year old lovable Border Collie named Aden and a recently rescued 6 month old sweet lab cross named Zander.

In her spare time, Dr. Forgey loves to play softball, paint, draw, read, watch the Huskers (in all sports) and spend time outside. She has two nieces who she loves to spend time with and teach science experiments. She competes in agility with Aden for fun and to keep him focused and healthy. Zander is still learning his manners. Every year she picks a New Year’s resolution like not drinking pop for a year or running 1000 miles. She is currently learning to play the piano. Next year she is considering learning Japanese for when she visits her sister in Japan.

Veterinarian

Jami Hillman, DVM

Dr. Hillman is originally from Palmyra and completed her undergraduate degree from Doane University in Crete, Nebraska. She went on to earn her Doctorate from Nebraska and Iowa State College of Veterinary Medicine. She enjoys many aspects of veterinary medicine, as well as building relationships with pets and their owners. When not work, she can be found riding horses, spending time with her dog Charlotte, or enjoying time with friends.
Veterinarian

Laura Young, DVM

Dr. Laura Young is from Brazil and obtained her Veterinary Medicine degree from the Federal University of Uberlândia in 2017. As an eager learner, she embarked on a transformative journey by immersing herself in new experiences. In 2013 and 2014, she had the privilege of attending Concord University in Athens, WV, and the University of Nebraska in Lincoln as an exchange student.
Since 2017, Dr. Young has made Lincoln her home, where she has not only contributed to the veterinary field but also pursued her professional development. She pursued the AVMA (American Veterinary Medical Association) certification for foreign graduates. Her unwavering dedication and commitment to her craft enabled her to begin practicing as a veterinarian in 2019.
Dr. Young's true passion lies in educating pet owners about their beloved companions' well-being, her dedication stems from her profound desire to empower clients to make informed decisions and promote their pets' optimal health.
In her personal life, Dr. Young is happily married to Charlie, a supportive partner who shares her passion for animal welfare. Together, they have created a loving home that includes their cherished companions. Wade and Dave, two affectionate cats, and Spud, a lovable dog—a German Shepherd with a touch of Pug—are an integral part of their family. In her leisure time, she indulges in watching movies, and she delights in the culinary arts and the world of literature.
Veterinarian

Marytza Abebe, DVM

Dr. Abebe hails from Lincoln, Nebraska, where she spent her formative years. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Nebraska - Lincoln, obtaining a Bachelor of Science Degree in Animal Science. Continuing her academic journey, she attained her Doctorate from Nebraska and Iowa State College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Abebe's professional interests lie exotic/wildlife animal medicine, neurology, and surgery. She finds fulfillment in tackling challenging cases and eagerly anticipates the opportunity to connect with the animals and clients at Pitts Veterinary Hospital. During her leisure time, you can find her accompanied by her beloved companions, Winston, her dog, and Mochi, her cat. Dr. Abebe also enjoys reading, spending time outdoors, and cherishing moments with friends and family.

Leadership

Practice Manager

Kyle Kyster

Kyle Kyster is the Practice Manager at Pitts Veterinary Hospital. Kyle graduated from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln with a Bachelor of Science with a focus in Conservation Biology and Zoo Animal Care. While going to school, he discovered a passion for veterinary medicine that has been growing ever since.

He currently has 2 dogs, Sophie (a golden doodle) and Dirks (a boxer mix) as well as a cat named Hoagie. He has also worked in the past with various reptile rescues and has a Tokay gecko and a Florida spiny shell turtle.

In his spare time, he enjoys the outdoors (especially fishing and camping), playing sand volleyball and watching good horror movies.

Accounting

Mandilyn Buker

Mandilyn Buker is our Practice Manager who has worked for Pitts Veterinary Hospital since October 28, 2003. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration from Doane College in May of 2009.

Mandilyn loves working for Pitts because we strive to create lasting relationships and provide the best care possible through explanations of symptoms and treatments to our patients and their families. She has made a lot of friends over the years, including both clients and patients. She is looking forward to helping expand and grow and to provide our patients and their families with the best possible medical care.

Mandilyn has two dogs: Odin, a German Shepherd cross and Eisa, a mixed breed. She also has two cats: Tricker and Tubby.

In her free time, Mandilyn enjoys playing with her dogs, reading, and spending time with family.

Inventory Management

Matt Bruce

Matt Bruce, Hospital Inventory Manager, came to Pitts Veterinary Hospital in January of 2000. He enjoys working at Pitts, he says, “because our veterinarians and staff aim to provide quality care that is customized to meet the specific needs of each animal.” He takes pleasure in organizing and stocking a selection of medications and materials that allow the hospital to deliver great veterinary treatment.

Matt earned both a Bachelor of Veterinary Science and a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln.

Matt has one daughter and owns one dog. When he is not at the hospital, Matt enjoys biking, hiking, movies, music, reading, writing and Husker football.

Technicians

Veterinary Technician

Sue Davis, LVT

Sue Davis is a certified Licensed Veterinary Technician in the state of Nebraska. She graduated from the Nebraska School of Technical Agriculture in Curtis in May of 1977. She has been employed in the animal care field for 33 years. She began working at Pitts Veterinary Hospital April 1, 1980.

Sue says “Pitts Hospital is a very good place to work, and that the bosses are very nice and fair. “We are like family,” she says. “We work as a team. I am honored to work here.”

Sue has three indoor cats. Mel, a domestic long hair, is her “handsome, naughty one.” Bean is a brown and black tiger, a very special guy because he arrived the summer her mom died. Budders, another short hair, is white and orange striped, and is her “angel boy.” Robert, an orange domestic long hair also enjoys life in her household.

Sue and her husband enjoy bargain hunting. She loves to bake and cook. Family is very important to her.

Veterinary Technician

Mandi, LVT, CTMT

Mandi is a full-time Licensed Veterinary Technician, licensed in the state of Nebraska. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Technology at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. She has been employed at Pitts Veterinary Hospital since October, 2002.

Mandi has 6 dogs, Dutch, Hitch, Holden, Miss Kitty, Ozzy and Zola. She also fosters dogs for Nebraska Italian Greyhound Rescue and Big Dogs Huge Paws, Inc.

Mandi enjoys camping, hiking, canoeing and canal jumping. She is also a member of Spelunkers Anonymous.

Veterinary Technician

Nicole Rettig, LVT

Nicole Rettig is a Licensed Veterinary Technician who graduated from Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture in Curtis. She started part-time with Pitts Veterinary Hospital in August, 2013. She is now a full-time technician with Pitts and a part-time groomer at Kenl Inn. She trains her own dogs and enjoys taking them to the dog parks.

She likes working at Pitts Veterinary Hospital because of the number of doctors she gets to work with and the way things are done here. She loves the people and animals and also enjoys working with exotics and has her own snakes and rats.

Nicole also has 3 dogs: Copper the Pomeranian, Reeces the Beagle mix and Nya the German Shorthair Pointer as well as 2 cats, Divot and Harley.

In her spare time, Nicole likes being outdoors with her dogs, and also enjoys doing crafts such as knitting, crocheting, and making collar bows.

Veterinary Technician

Bailee Topil, LVT

Bailee Marie Topil has been employed at Pitts Veterinary Hospital since June 2016. She is a full-time Technician. Bailee attended the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture in Curtis, and has interned with the Humane Society in Lincoln. She enjoys working with animals and learning about new and interesting cases.

Bailee’s pets include four rats named Kovu, Kane, Koda and Karma; three ferrets named Freido, Ruffles and Dorito; a hedgehog named Edgar, a collard lizard named Rocket, and Rusty, a bearded dragon. She also has a Sheba Inu named Atticus and a cat named Nora.

Bailee’s hobbies include drawing, soccer and Husker sports.

Technician Interns

Client Care Representative

Shauna Whitehill

Shauna Whitehill has been employed at Pitts Veterinary Hospital as a full-time Client Care Representative and Technician Assistant since January, 2017. She likes the idea that the staff is dedicated to giving the best care possible to patients.

Shauna has a border collie named Walt as well as beta fish named Logi and Gilbert, a guinea pig.

In her free time, she enjoys hiking, kayaking, reading and yoga.

Veterinary Technician Assistant

Sara Shallenberger

Stephen Lawson graduated from the Nebraska College of Technical Agriculture in Curtis with a Veterinary Technician Associates in May 2019. Stephen is continuing his education at UNL to complete a Bachelors in Veterinary Technology.

During his time at NCTA, Stephen interned at Pitts and returned to work part-time after graduating.

Stephen currently has one cat but still dreams of owning his favorite breed of cat, a Turkish Van. In his spare time, Stephen likes to read, bake, craft and participate in all things nerdy.

Client Care Representative

Laura Mischnick

Laura Mischnick is a part-time Client Care Representative and kennel assistant who has worked for Pitts Veterinary Hospital since June of 2008. She graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology in 2009. She thinks Pitts Hospital is an amazing place to work because our doctors are so knowledgeable and personable, and everyone works as a team here. She also notes that our clients are the best and they are the reason we are here!

In her spare time, she enjoys horseback riding, scuba diving, traveling, watching hockey, and reading.

Client Care Representative

JD Qualls

JD joined Pitts Veterinary Hospital in April 2022 as a full-time Client Care Representative. He appreciates the care and attention given to each patient here at Pitts.
JD has had family cats and dogs throughout his life, and now has his own cat, TJ.
In his free time, JD enjoys woodworking, drawing, and spending time with friends and family.

Ellie Lojka

Ellie Johnson joined Pitts Veterinary Hospital as part time kennel staff and Client Care Representative in March 2019.

Ellie is studying Animal Science and has worked at two different zoos. She was a volunteer zookeeper and has worked with many exotic animals. She loves working with animals and in her spare time, Ellie enjoys spending time with her family, traveling with her fiancee’ and hanging out with friends.

Ellie has three dogs: Tinker Bell, Jasmine and Lilly Belle.

Client Care Representative

Eleanor Churchill

Eleanor joined our clinic in June 2020 and works as Client Care Representative and kennel assistant.

Eleanor grew up around animals of all shapes and sizes, including birds of prey! She also has enjoyed getting into the veterinary field head first.

In her free time she enjoys history, writing, and fly fishing.

Lauren Epp

Lauren Epp is a part time Client Care Representative and kennel assistant at Pitts Veterinary Hospital as of October 2020. She is studying Animal Science at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln on the Pre-Vet track.

Lauren has a cat named Violet and a betta fish named Zuko. She loves dogs as well and is looking forward to adopting a dog someday.

In her free time, she enjoys playing the piano, reading and spending time with friends and family.

Client Care Representative

Maycee Humphrey

Lauren Epp is a part time Client Care Representative and kennel assistant at Pitts Veterinary Hospital as of October 2020. She is studying Animal Science at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln on the Pre-Vet track.

Lauren has a cat named Violet and a betta fish named Zuko. She loves dogs as well and is looking forward to adopting a dog someday.

Support Staff

Shelley VanBrocklin

Shelley joined us in October 2019. She cares for the kennel area and keeps our yard beautiful. Shelley likes getting her day started early to help get the hospital prepared for the day. She especially enjoys giving the dogs and cats plenty of affection and helping them to be more comfortable during their stay with us.

Becoming empty nesters this fall, she is looking forward to having more time with her animal family. She has Juno – a Husky cross, Griffey – a Retriever cross, six cats, three horses and is looking to replace the chickens they lost recently.

Shelley loves gardening and puttering around the yard, hiking with the dogs, mountain biking and horseback riding. She also enjoys reading, yoga, doing multiple home-reno projects and traveling to places new and old. Napping with the house cat is always a favorite pastime.

Katie Tresler

Katie Tresler is a kennel assistant who has been with Pitts Veterinary Hospital since May 2021. She is currently working on getting a Bachelor of Science in Biology at Nebraska Wesleyan University and hopes to be able to continue on to veterinary school.

Katie has had many family pets growing up. She is excitedly awaiting the chance to start her own pet family and will soon be bringing home a mixed lab puppy.

In her free time, Katie enjoys watching movies and dabbling in photography.

Chase Resseguie

Chase Resseguie is a kennel assistant who has been with Pitts Veterinary Hospital since December 2021 and is hoping to become a technician assistant in the future. He is currently working on his Bachelor of Science in Biology at Nebraska Wesleyan University and aspires to be accepted to veterinary school.

Chase grew up in the presence of many different types of pets from dogs and cats to frogs, squirrels, snakes, birds, turtles, and frogs. He hopes to own a vast array of animals himself one day. Growing up with a grandpa who was a veterinarian, his love for nature and sympathy for sick animals has inspired him to choose this career path.

In his free time, he likes to fish, golf, and likes to spend time with family.

Kirstin Henle

Kirstin Henle joined Pitts Veterinary Hospital as a kennel assistant in 2021. She is currently working towards a degree in Animal Science.

She has a German short hair pointer named Bristol. She also has multiple fish and a red claw crab.

In her free time, she loves hiking with her dog, playing video games and table top games, especially Dungeons and Dragons.

LeeAnn King

LeeAnn has lived in Northwest Missouri her whole life and moved to Lincoln in January 2022. She has three kids and four grandkids.

LeeAnn grew up on a farm and has always had a passion and love for animals and nature. There has never been a day in her life she hasn't owned a cat or dog and usually it's multiple pets at a time!
