We are looking for a Licensed Veterinary Technician to join our existing team of 3.
Licensed Veterinary Technicians and 6 doctors in a busy AAHA accredited hospital. FT openings for LVT’s at Pitts Veterinary Hospital do not happen very often, so don’t miss this opportunity!
The ideal candidate would be licensed in Nebraska, have great communication skills with clients, and the ability to work well with all colleagues. Technicians who show passion and motivation to help animals, and their people, and are willing to grow their skills in this profession will be highly considered.
Our Veterinary Technicians assist in multiple procedures providing care for animals including: physical examinations, dental procedures, surgeries, immunizations, treatments, and euthanasia. As well as client education, marketing, and inventory maintenance. This position requires a working knowledge of pharmaceutical drugs, common diseases; their symptoms, means of transmission, treatment and prevention, and other basic preventative health care recommendations. Our technicians must be able to provide top-notch nursing care and be ready at all times to assist doctors, fellow technicians, or the front desk/kennel staff as needed (some cross training required).
Interest or experience in providing Fear Free care to patients is required.
Our clinic practices high-quality medicine and has a good reputation, so we see patient referrals from several other clinics in Lincoln and the surrounding towns. We do a lot of in-house labs with the Catalyst, Sedivue, and Vetscan. Our technicians must be highly proficient in CBC’s, urinalyses, in-house culture, and fecal screenings, in addition to the 4dx heartworm and other snap tests. We use IDEXX Laboratories for our outside reference lab. We have digital x-ray, digital dental x-ray, a Phillips ultrasound as well as recently updated anesthesia machines, dental and surgical laser equipment, incubator, and EKG.
Required work shifts will be 7am – 3pm and/or 12pm-8pm M-F, with some Saturdays from 8am-4pm (open 9am-3pm). We perform surgery from 7-3 M-F, plus emergency surgeries during the evening shift or on weekends. We have our technicians rotate weekend treatment duty (Saturday night, Sunday morning and evening) and holidays taking care of our in-hospital patients. Technician assistance and oversight for kennel duty is required from time to time. Hours would be around 40 per week. Flexibility to train and fill in on either shift would be helpful. Monthly meetings are required, typically held at 2pm on a weekday.
FT employees working more than 30 hours per week are given an annual scrub allowance and offered a generous employee discount after 6 months of employment (including steep discounts from Hill’s and Idexx and free preventative products from Merial, Bayer, and other vendors). CE allowance is available and license renewal fees are covered by the clinic. Profit sharing is currently available after 1 year of satisfactory service.
